One Year Anniversary- Part One- A: Friday at Woodmill

Wineries, wineries, and more wineries! Our anniversary trip was to the Biltmore (more details to follow on that part of the trip). We left our house around 10am with a packed lunch and drove to the Biltmore. We made many stops on the way at three different wineries. As we took the 321 exit, we were so excited about the trip and couldn't wait to experience wine tastings/tours and fun stories of grapes growing! We took the exit for our first winery, but things weren't looking so hopeful! We drove and drove and drove down this back country road for ever (about 11 miles) looking for the next road.



We called the winery and she didn't know where we were (NOT A GOOD SIGN)! So we turned around, and went all the way back to the beginning of that road. We asked for directions, and they told us to go back down the road we just came off of!? So we went back down the road, found another gas station to ask how to get there.... and they directed us to continue for another while and make a few turns! The entire time, we were staying positive! We finally made it to...




thats right... Woodmill Winery. This was a great winery! Their story goes a little something like this: the owner's father was struggling with heart and cholestrol problems. He didnt want to be on medication forever, and his doctor told him the benefits of red wine. He tried many different kinds of red wines, but never liked any of them. So as the loving son, he tried to make red wines that his father would enjoy. They grow their own grapes and make a lot of scuppernong and muscadine wines. They had great wines to choose from and gave us a little tour of the fermentation and process of wine making their. They also invite a few people in the community to come and help bottle once a week. He said we certainly could if we wanted. They all drink wine, bottle wine, chat about life, and everyone goes home with a free bottle of wine! The drive might be a little worth it!? We LOVED this winery once we got there! We purchased our bottle of wine, and hopped in the car to our next stop. We were hoping to eat lunch on their deck and then go, but getting lost set us backa little, so we ate lunch on the way! It was a great start!
