Trusting God

I just started a new book study with my friend Kelly called Trusting God Even When Life Hurts by Jerry Bridges.  So far, the first two chapters are rich with truths about who God is... is He trustworthy?  and is He in control?  I would answer "Yes" to both!  He is trustworthy and He is in control!  I am looking forward to the weeks ahead as we unfold "trusting God".  Just a few quotes from chapter 2:

"No one can act outside of God's sovereign will or against it.  Centuries ago, Augustine said, 'Nothing, therefore, happens unless the Omnipotent wills it to happen: he either permits it to happen, or he brings it about himself.'  Phillip Hughes said, 'Under God, however, all things are without exception filly controlled- despite all appearances of the contrary.'  Nothing is too large or small to escape God's governing hand.  The spider building its web in the corner and Napoleon marching his army across Europe are both under God's control."

"The sovereignty of God is often questioned because man does not understand what God is doing.  Because He does not act as we think He should, we conclude He cannot act as we think He would."

Consider what God has done; who can straighten what he has made crooked? Ecc. 7:13

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.  Proverbs 19:21
